Learning Maths with Technology Using both Offline and Online Free Resources
Using technology for Maths will engage and excite your learners. Bringing technology into your teaching will allow all of your students to gain confidence in modern communication, problem solving, and STEM thinking. Even if you don’t think you have the internet, bandwidth, or the devices; hours of individual and group learning can occur through self-paced work as well as through classroom instruction as you will experience in this workshop. The Rachel project from WorldPossible has designed a server that works offline in an initiative to make available rich and curated educational content to serve learning where internet connectivity is inconsistent or doesn’t exist. In addition to this valuable offline strategy with resources far beyond Maths, the new Khan Academy Lite is now Kolibri and you will see how wonderful it is for your learners. Many more resources will be shared in this rich and robust Maths workshop!
Presenter Bio
Mr. Christian Kananga is an IT administrator at Ithemba Lethu Learning Centre in Langa, Cape Town. He is working in community development to help young learners to study maths, do homework, use computers, and become familiar with 21st century learning strategies. Mr. Kananga also works with adults at the Learning Centre who want to know how to use computers and grow their understanding of technology. He has four years experience in the IT environment working for Ecobank DRC, and was responsible for the eastern area in charge of service delivery, helpdesk , network support, and ATM support. Christian holds a degree in computer science with distinction from the University of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was also a lecturer in the computer science department of the University.
Mr. Kananga wants to share computer science knowledge and skills with underserved and under-educated community members in order to help increase potential in the job market. He als is committed to working with students, kids and adults who are interested in acquiring a better understanding of technology. He believes that Africa has to play a role in the technology evolution in all sectors of society in order to give people an equal chance to achieve their goals and dreams.
