Presenter Bio
After leaving Sacred Heart College in Johannesburg in 1992 Anthony studied teaching at JCE, now Wits. He worked in England for 5 years before returning to Johannesburg in 2006. After two years in recruitment he moved back into teaching and is now at Dainfern College in Johannesburg. As Director of Technology at Dainfern, Anthony has had the opportunity to run a BYOD programme over the past seven years. He is a firm believer in the opportunities that technology provides teachers in terms of personal development and classroom opportunities, as well as the option to save time.
As an Apple Education Trainer with Leadership focus, a Google Education Group Leader and Google Education Trainer – he is always looking for ways to use Google and Apple in the classroom. He teaches ICT, at Dainfern College and uses Google Apps extensively in these lessons. Dainfern College also uses Google’s G Suite to manage all email, calendar and facilities for the school. Asked to present in Lagos, Nigeria to 1000 teachers on how to use Google Tools to enhance teaching, Anthony designed a training over 5 days, in August 2014 and used live demos to enhance the topics.
Anthony loves to play with new ideas for using tech in teaching and is constantly looking for better ways to engage students in the learning process, while still making them effective digital and global citizens. Recently Anthony has been trying to develop a paperless classroom model that works in the South African context of high internet costs and low bandwidth, as well as power constraints.
