Workshop Description
Do you want to take your teaching and learning materials to the next level? Do you want to inspire creativity and critical thinking in your students, no matter what subject area you teach? We will look at Padlet, a free and robust application that allows you to create interactive and engaging teaching and learning materials.
In this workshop, you will learn how to use Padlet to create a variety of materials, such as mind maps, timelines, collaborative boards, and more. You will learn how to incorporate multimedia instructional elements, such as videos, images, and audio, to enhance the interactivity and engagement for your learners. This workshop will provide you with the tools and resources you need — and time to explore in our session — in order for you to create at least one assignment that is dynamic and engaging and will inspire creativity and critical thinking in your students as you guide them to show their thinking, conceptual understanding, and research in creative ways.
By the end of the workshop, you will have new skills and knowledge to create lessons that will transform your teaching and learning practices and provide your students with important and differentiated ways to engage with you, each other, and what they are learning in your class!

Bio: Karen, known as ‘K2’, is the Associate Director for Professional Development at the Center for Technology and School Change at Teachers College, Columbia University. K2 is based in New York City but can be found often in her adopted home of South Africa. She got her foundations in teaching working as a technology arts and STEAM teacher at Town School for Boys in San Francisco, but she has since provided instructional support for K-12 teachers, schools, and national initiatives both in the U.S. and around the world. She has worked with educators to design and launch coding, robotics, makerspace, and visual design programs. In 2013, K2 co-founded EdTech Summit Africa, the annual education technology conference in South Africa — free for teachers — now going into its eighth year. In 2018 she co-founded the non profit parent organization, EdTech Global Africa, to strategically plan innovative learning experiences on the African continent. K2 is passionate about helping schools and organizations around the world create a culture receptive to implementing technology for creative teaching and learning. K2 holds a BA in Broadcast Engineering from San Francisco State University, an MA in Instructional Technology and Media from Teachers College at Columbia University, and is currently working there full time and in the minutes and seconds remaining on her doctorate in Adult Learning and Leadership.
